The ability to make clean drinking water out of naturally found water is a necessary tool in the backcountry. Katadyn makes a series of water filtering system, but arguably their most popular is the Hiker (and the Hiker Pro). Hydration Bladder - The Platypus Review

My love hate relationship with water bladders. I just dislike the part of managing them when I get home. Whereas a 1.0 liter bottle is easy to empty and put in the dishwasher. However, overall I think the water bladders are a good way to go. Especially some of the new bladders out on the market. The Platypus is a more friendly system to clean and maintain than what I have personally used in the past.
